The process control community has evolved considerably over the last 25 years. This community, which has been predominantly associated with the chemical and petrochemical industry, has been increasingly involved in the research and development of many new application areas. Correspondingly, many key process control technologies, such as MPC, have found a very broad spectrum of applications that goes beyond the traditional control of industrial processes. The activities of the members of the TC are varied and reflect the research activity of our TC members which goes far beyond the traditional control of industrial processes. Our members, and the process control community in general, tackle many problems in diverse areas that include systems biology, energy systems, nano-technology, and biomedical systems that do not qualify as industrial-scale applications.
